Ever thought about playing disc golf in a corn maze? This is about as close as you’re going to get, except replace the corn with thorns, briars, and grass taller than your head. Let’s begin with finding the course; the GPS coordinates drop you off in the middle of a road adjacent to the property, but nowhere near the park itself. Once in the park proper, you need to walk a meandering path, past the school and into the wetlands area to find the first hole. Each hole offers signage with the number and distance to the pin, but no graphical representation. A 2 foot diameter, circular concrete pad marks the area you can throw from, though it’s not even big enough for a standstill stance. Holes one through eight are a repeat of the following; 40 foot wide mowed path with 7 foot tall rough surrounding all sides. Add in the Lake Erie winds and you’re all set for hours of fun searching through the rough for an errant throw. Hole 9 offers the only diversity with a 300 foot tunnel shot through a nice pine forest. I appreciate that this course exists, however, a Metropark should have the time, resources, and desire to provide something better than this for the community.
